Get Rid of Images and Banner Ads

Get rid of pornographic banner adsDuring recovery, your brain is likely to be hyper-reactive to any cues it associates with relief. This means those jiggling images and scantily clad sales sirens that show up unbidden can cause serious inner turmoil, even though they are not porn.

Set your internet so that images don’t show when you’re looking at facebook. This, I’ve found, helps me a lot. You might have to delete your cookies in order to make sure preloaded photos don’t appear anymore.

Another guy:

Check out Google Chrome. There is a free ad-blocker plugin that will get rid of all those pictures that are tempting you.

Safe way to browse dating sites:

If you install AdBlock Plus, you can right click on specific images and block them. You can keep blocking out any images that appear on the dating site until there’s none of the ones you find stimulating. From there you can still browse the women but won’t be bombarded by the images. Once you have one you might be interested, you can turn it off to take a peak at what she looks like…or to the degree you feel comfortable with that.

Said one man:

There’s actually an option on all browsers to turn off displaying images entirely! You can also turn off Flash entirely. This means no ads, no logos, no first frame of videos, no gifs, no jpegs – nothing – just text. If you want to look at one particular image, you can still right click it and select ‘view image.’

Of course on some sites, it’s a bit too much, because some of the navigation is done with images. For those sites, just fire up a different browser temporarily to look at that site. Same thing if you want to run Pandora or something – just run it in a different browser.

So how do you do it?

In Firefox, you just go to options -> content, and deselect where it says display images. There’s something similar for IE. It should be easy to find, but if you can’t find it, just private message me, and I’ll give you instructions (I’m a IT nerd).

Google Chrome: click the wrench icon in the top-right corner, go to Preferences -> Under the Hood -> Content Settings… -> Images, then select “Do not show any images”.

Internet Explorer: Go to “Tools” (it’s an unlabeled gear-shaped icon on version 9) -> Internet Options… -> Advanced, then scroll down the list to Multimedia, and uncheck “Show pictures”.

Safari: click the gear icon -> Preferences… -> Appearance, then uncheck “Display images when the page opens”

Opera: go to Menu -> Page -> Images, then click on “No Images”.

There is a very simple solution to this problem. Even if you don’t want to install a porn-blocking program, you can still install an extension for your browser which will block practically all advertisements from showing up. I use Adblock Plus with Firefox, and it works perfectly! There are other options out there as well.
