26 – Heterosexual Male. Since the age of 13 or 14 I started looking at PMO. I am currently 25 and have not had a libido the majority of my adult life due to PMO rewiring my brain. For the past 2 years I have been on some semblance nofap with periodic relapses but already have transitioned from essentially being effectively asexual/having no libido to someone with a libido.
The transition period from being essentially asexual to sexual resulted in periodic animalistic surges of libido. Not having established any momentum with dating my entire adult life as well as some weight gain that set me out of the dating game, I impulsively have seeked sex from morally questionable channels.
Where this comes full circle – I am learning at least based on the framework of Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous and similar 12 step programs that I have been a sex addict during my entire adult life. Adding in the fact that I have always been addicted to PMO means that there is a secondary sexual addiction. So to summarize the stages I have been in:
Stage 1: Essentially asexual and addicted to PMO. Qualifies under 2 definitions of sex addict a) sexual anorexia and b) addicted to PMO
Stage 2: No longer asexual but still struggling with pmo. Now qualifying under 2 definitions of sex addict a) struggling with PMO addiction and b) struggling with seeking sex from morally questionable contexts
I imagine a percentage of people struggling with pornography addiction are in the “forever alone” demographic in that you have avoided sex due to porn killing your sex drive. I’ve recently learned that Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous defines this demographic as a type of sex addict with the word “Anorexia” used. Note: I am a member of this organization but this is based on information on their website.
The bigger picture – Under the frameworks of Sex and Love Addicts anonymous, isn’t it arguable that all people that identify with porn addiction are sex addicts. I’m not saying that 12 step sex addiction groups’ frameworks for what constitutes an addict is gospel, but that 12 step programs are a tool people on nofap may benefit from.
